Calibration targets for this task: 80–115 words, reading grade 11–15, average sentence 14–27 words. Every item is measured against these and rewritten if it misses; distractors are checked for length, register and duplicate giveaways. These are proxies for exam difficulty, not Pearson's own item calibration.
Marking for this task: Partial credit: 1 point per correctly filled blank, no penalty for a wrong dropdown. Feeds Reading and Writing.
